Concrete blocks are cast similar to puzzle pieces that can be interlocked to create the latrine structure. A door frame, door and concrete roof is then attached to create the modular toilet. The goal of this building method is to simplify the construction process to the point that customers can assemble the product themselves.

The Durasan latrine was designed to be constructed without the need for skilled masons. The interlocking concrete blocks were designed to fit like legos to enable easy construction, and the sanitation system was designed to integrate latrine construction, upgrading and maintenance to ensure continual functionality.
