Product Description

The CalWave Hydronode operates using a single power-take-off (PTO) and surface piercing point absorber to utilize wave energy to desalinate seawater. The system uses a commercial-off-the-shelf reverse osmosis unit and was designed to be small for rapid deployment while also allowing for the potential to scale. The system can provide fresh water for off-grid applications using wave energy for remote and rural communities.

Design Specifications

The design utilizes an inflatable hull that is mostly filled with seawater (can be adjusted based on anchor size) to increase the surface contact with waves and reduce pretension in the mooring line. The reverse osmosis (RO) system forces water through a membrane producing pure water. The estimated total freshwater delivered (TDS)  is 250 mg/L based on the commercial-off-the-shelf RO system when operated consistently at 800 PSI.
