Design Specifications
The eCookstove consists of phase change material (PCM) to store heat, an insulated box to house the PCM to prevent heat loss, resistive wires for heating, and a Power Optimisation Device (POD) to control power drawn from the photovoltaic (PV) panel. The PCM melts and the heat generated is transferred to the hotplate.
Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters
The designers aim to reduce reliance on wood fuel during cooking with a low-cost alternative that is acceptable to rural communities.
Vetted Performance Status
Testing performed by the manufacturer demonstrated that sufficient heat was provided for slow cooking, but did not reach boiling temperatures. The hotplate temperature reached 97°C three hours after the heater was turned off, and remained above 70°C approximately 19 hours later.
