Product Description

The DesignPro Renewables hydrokinetic turbine is manufactured by an Irish company called DesignPro Renewables. It is designed to harness the kinetic energy from flowing water found in rivers and estuaries. The turbine generates clean, renewable energy from flowing water. The concept of the device exploits the natural phenomenon that occurs when flowing water comes into contact with an object or obstruction. By using such an obstacle as part of the design, water is compressed and accelerates as it is diverted out and around the bluff body. DesignPro Renewables’ technology involves two vertical axis turbines placed on each side of a teardrop shaped vessel. The vessel, coupled with the blade pitch control system, speeds up the water into the turbines to produce significant energy in low flows of water, according to DesignPro.

Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters

It has a unique bluff-body, vertical-axis turbine with a capacity of 25kW and 60kW floating system. The floating bluff increases the flow speed to blades either side of it, producing energy up to eight times more efficiently. It is not permanently fixed so it can be moved easily if required. The turbine blades can also be raised and lowered making access for maintenance straight- forward.

Vetted Performance Status

Operational and environmental testing and power curves verified by Bureau Veritas standard.

Safety

No known hazards
