Product Description

This product was discontinued and replaced by the Stone Cold Systems (SCS) product.

The Stone Cold Solar was a prototype that combines active cooling and real-time temperature feedback to prevent the temperature changes that ruin vaccine loads during transportation. The unit features GPS tracking and run reporting from remote locations so that the necessary personnel can be notified if the temperature goes out of the preset range. In order to maintain functionality off the grid (during transportation), the Stone Cold Solar has a detachable solar panel that can be used to trickle charge the on-board battery.

Design Specifications

3rd Stone Design aims to improve the cold chain vaccine distribution system with a portable, rechargeable vaccine refrigerator that can be temperature controlled and remotely-monitored. The 'Stone Cold Solar' unit combines active cooling and real-time temperature feedback to prevent accidental loss of vaccine loads. The unit features GPS tracking and run reporting from remote locations so that the necessary personnel can be notified if the temperature goes out of the preset range. In order to maintain functionality off the grid, the Stone Cold Solar has a detachable solar panel that can be used to trickle charge the on-board battery.

Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters

3rd Stone Design states that it is important to keep vaccines between 2-8 degrees Celsius and provide temperature feedback during transportation.

Vetted Performance Status

This product is a prototype but as of August, 2016, the device was being readied for field evaluation in the distribution of new vaccines for potentially pandemic diseases in West Africa.

Safety

Vaccines are important in disease control. From the point of manufacture to the time of injection, vaccines need to be kept within a precisely controlled temperature range. Typically, this range is between 2-8 degrees Celsius. If the vaccines are exposed to temperatures outside of this range, they can lose their effectiveness. Safety information specific to this vaccine transportation device is unknown.
