Design Specifications
The product is stationary and pedal powered, it requires no electricity to be operated. It is made from used bicycle parts such as pedals, frame, chains, and handles. The pedaling system is connected to a cement flywheel to facilitate continuous pedaling and uses sprockets’ diameter relation to vary speed and torque. The system is connected to rope which is lowered down into a well and drawn up through a long pipe with the bottom immersed in water. The system also consists of round plastic balls whose diameter matches the diameter of the pipe and which function as a seal that helps pull the water to the surface.
Technical Support
Bici-Tec trains users at the moment of delivering the product on how to give preventive maintenance. If needed Bici-Tec can also do repairs or provide additional technical support. Interview with representative
Replacement Components
Available at Bici-Tec and locally available at bike shops. Interview with representative
Lifecycle
The product can be recycled afterwards, to make more bici maquinas or at a common recycling center since most of the structure is steel.
Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters
This product pumps between 5 to 10 gallons of water per minute from a 30 m well.
Vetted Performance Status
This product pumps about 220 L in 15 minutes (~4 gallons per minute) from a 14 m well.
Safety
Risk of winding due to exposed rotating components and medium rotational speed.
Complementary Technical Systems
Bici-Tec teaches, empowers, and encourages people to use pedal powered machines (bici maquinas) through their school Escuela De Bici-Tecnología Apropriada.
