Manufactured and distributed in Ethiopia, Gogle Energy Saving Stoves are rocket-type, biomass-powered cookstoves intended for household use.

Manufacturing/Building Method

Gogle stoves are manufactured at their facility in Addis Abba, Ethiopia. The factory has the capacity to produce up to 500 stoves/day, however, they generally produce 120 stoves/day.

Design Specifications

The stove is designed with a clay combustion chamber and metal housing. A hatch opens to the fuel-feeding chamber and wooden handles enable portability.

Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters

The manufacture specifies three types of impact targets: (1) Social targets: Hire and empower women to work in their factory, empower communities by reducing their dependency on firewood, and reduce the workload of women (decreased time collecting firewood and cooking). (2) Environmental targets: Improve indoor air quality, reduce deforestation, and reduce GHG emissions. (3) Economic targets: Deliver high volumes of stoves, generate annual income of 1,800 USD for each employee, and create jobs in production, retail, and distribution of their products.

Vetted Performance Status

The stove was tested in an Ethiopian government lab to have an efficiency rating of 51%.Interview with manufacture The stove has not been tested under international standards.

The stove should remain on leveled ground and users must be cautious when working around hot surfaces.
