Kinnos Highlight for Liquid Bleach

Upcoming Update

Provides real-time visual colorization so healthcare workers can see the surfaces they have covered. Courtesy of WHO Compen

Product Description

Kinnos Highlight colorized bleach additive can be combined with standard bleach disinfectants to enable real-time visual colorization so healthcare workers can see exactly what surfaces they have covered to aid in the disinfection process. The color then fades to colorless after a few minutes to prevent staining. Peer-reviewed studies have demonstrated quantifiable improvements in disinfection technique and that the additive is safe to use.

This product was selected for inclusion in WHO’s 2021 Compendium of Innovative Health Technologies for Low‐Resource Settings

Design Specifications

Highlight color additive comes as a powder and is dissolved directly into 5 liters of disinfectant (5,000 ppm bleach/chlorine solution). After 60 seconds of mixing, the powder is fully dissolved, and the colorized bleach/chlorine solution can be applied onto surfaces using typical applicators, such as pump sprayers, trigger sprayers, or a bucket and rag. The mixture is good for up to 5 hours after mixing, and the color disappears 3 minutes after application.

Lifecycle

1-year shelf life. The color fades in 3 minutes on surfaces and lasts for 5 hours in bleach solution after mixed.

Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters

Visually show disinfected area, color fade over time to prevent staining, fast and intuitive for untrained individuals, mitigate risk of disease spread.

Vetted Performance Status

Research has found that the technology improved surface coverage of bleach/chlorine disinfectants from 33% coverage to 99.9% coverage. Additionally, research has found that the product is safe/non-toxic, and that it does not reduce the efficacy of disinfectants. After a month of use, failure rates of ATP bioluminescence quality control scores reduced from 5.9% to 0%. Additionally, this technology has been tested in Liberia, Guinea, Haiti, Uganda, and DR Congo for suitability in low-resource settings with healthcare workers in Liberia and Guinea describing improved confidence and feelings of safety from using the product.
