The MoneyMaker Hip Pump is a portable, manually-operated pump designed by KickStart International for use in irrigation by small-scale farmers. The design is based on a hand-pump attached to a hinged platform, allowing users to use their leg, body weight, and momentum. KickStart aims to help small-holder farmers to start family enterprises using the pump, thereby enabling the farmers to lift their families out of poverty.

Pumps can be purchased in Kickstart's five country programs (Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Ghana and Mali) via local agro dealers, retailers, distributors and partnership arrangements with organisations. For other countries, purchases are made through KickStart's Global Institutional Partners. Design Specifications

The MoneyMaker Hip Pump can lift water from a source 7 m deep and pump water a distance of 14 m. The pump can irrigate 1.25 acres a day with a flow rate of 37.85 L/min. The pump weighs 4.5 kg and is rust-resistant.

Technical Support

KickStart provides technical support from their Product Development Department with regular visits to farmers who have purchased the pumps.
